Canada to introduce new refugee pathway under Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot
The Canadian government is set to introduce a new immigration pathway aimed at connecting skilled refugees and displaced persons with Canadian employers. The new pathway will be available under the federal Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP), which exists to help employers address labour shortages in key occupations by pairing them with skilled refugees and other displaced persons. This summer, the new pathway will give employers more opportunities to fill in-demand jobs such as nurse aids, personal support workers, software engineers, teachers, and tourism and hospitality workers. Over the next few years, Canada plans to expand the EMPP and welcome 2,000 qualified refugees and displaced persons to fill labour shortages. The country’s record levels of immigration and foreign worker admissions are largely aimed at addressing labour shortages. Canada currently offers more than 100 different economic class immigration pathways, with the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and the Express Entry system being the leading pathways.
